Students of J-School produce own newscasts, newspapers and magazine (26 March)

Two-week advanced radio and TV workshops, along with a three-week course on “long print format” – these were the March highlights at the Chisinau School of Advanced Journalism (CSAJ). The students produced daily 10-minute TV and radio newscasts, and worked on a weekly newspaper and a magazine – both with focus on community issues. CSAJ is a spin-off project of the Independent Journalism Center (IJC), which was launched in September 2006. The School provides a 10-month graduate level, hands-on training in journalism to students from different Moldovan regions. In March, students also had a chance to analyze the challenges of magazine-making in Moldova during regular meetings of their discussion club. Club invitees were managers and owners of major national magazines. The CSAJ is a joint project of the IJC, the Missouri School of Journalism, “Press Now” from the Netherlands and the Paris-based CFPJ journalists’ training center. School activities are supported by grants from the U.S. State Department, the National Endowment for Democracy, the MATRA program of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the British and French embassies in Chisinau, the French embassy in Bucharest, and the OSCE Mission to Moldova (IJC).
