Admissions at the SAJ, chances and opportunities for all

At the School of Advanced Journalism, courses are in full swing, and very soon current students will walk into various editorial offices throughout the country – for an internship and for future employment. However, while our youths are preparing for graduation, SAJ administration is already thinking about the next academic year, and for that reason it launched the traditional Admission Caravan 2016-2017.

Our first destination was the Comrat State University. Over 40 graduates of various departments came to find out about the School of Advanced Journalism and what it can offer to those who want to learn a new profession or improve their skills and knowledge in the art of information and communication.

We discussed about the process of studying at the SAJ, about enrolment conditions and about the advantages there are for candidates from regions, including for those from Gagauzia. SAJ Director Sorina Stefarta explained how important it is today in Moldovan society to have fair, neutral and independent journalism and how young people can contribute to that. The issue that sparked the most interest was the opportunities that young people have after graduating the SAJ. Sorina Stefarta said that the School of Advanced Journalism prepares “universal” journalists, who can easily join any media outlet in the country and abroad, because the SAJ places a strong accent on providing journalists with practical skills. Students spend a lot of time doing field work: they write news stories, reports and interviews and work in conditions of a real editorial office.

This idea was also underlined by SAJ student Petru Garciu, who graduated from the agriculture section of the Comrat State University. “I decided to come to the SAJ because I understood that journalism first of all means practice. Field work helps us better understand what the journalistic profession means, and the School offers us all the possibilities to become true professionals in the field,” Petru said. He encouraged the students of the Comrat Univesity to try themselves at the SAJ, as it is “a school that offers equal chances to young people from all over the country.”

At the end of the meeting, Comrat State University students were given newspapers produced by SAJ students and informed about how and where they can find us. More information about admission, courses and trainers can be found out by accessing www.scoaladejurnalism.md or our Facebook page.
